Juve, best wishes to Boniperti: ‘Winning isn’t important, but it’s the only thing that matters’ | A league

Juventus congratulates Giampiero Boniperti, who turns 92 today:

“It was July 4th 1928.
Giampiero Boniperti was born in Barengo, in the Piedmont province (near Novara, to be precise). No one knew yet, but the epic that awaited him was one of those that deserve to end in the history of football.

It certainly occupies a fundamental chapter in the book of the black and white legend. In fact, the young Boniperti married the colors of Juventus in 1947, not even 20 years old. And from the following months it was clear to everyone that his Juventus adventure would be lasting and full of satisfactions.

Serie A top scorer in the following season, and then winner of the championship with the Lady. Five Scudetti won as a player, one of the tips of that diamond called (precisely) Boniperti-Charles-Sivori: a triptych so famous as to be almost a nursery rhyme, to be pronounced by heart.

And the beauty of this story is that the fantastic adventure on the pitch is only the first part. The second begins in fact in 1971, when Boniperti becomes Juventus President. A winning President like no one before him: 16 trophies won in less than 20 years, a dizzying average, an era of extraordinary triumphs that have brought Juventus to the throne of the world.

It could only be his the phrase that every Juventus fan has literally tattooed in his heart. To be repeated in chorus, while we wish our Presidentissimo: WINNING IS NOT IMPORTANT, BUT IT IS THE ONLY THING THAT COUNTS.
